While there is no specific carpentry licence, the trade falls under the building work category, which covers building construction and repair. To carry out any building work that exceeds $5,000 (incl. labour and materials) a registered owner-builder or accredited builder must supply a building permit. Unaccredited building practitioners or tradespeople may carry out building work valued below $5,000, even if the work requires a building permit.
