This qualification of a FBP30321- Certificate III in Cake and Pastry provides the knowledge and skills required by an individual who wishes to work in the light vehicle automotive repair and service industry. Despite the specialized-sounding title, this is a general and highly practical degree for any person looking to get involved in the automotive mechanic industry. You will be qualified to tackle such universally important tasks as engine and transmission repairs, maintenance on steering, and other vital vehicle systems, especially on consumer automobiles.

Qualified workers in this trade often find themselves with opportunities to advance into a specialist position through their work, or in establishing their own mechanics’ business. Less typical paths of advancement exist in the design and development of today’s vehicle diagnostic software and tools or mechanics aids.

To qualify for this certificate, you must provide evidence demonstrating that your skills and knowledge align with the courser’s learning outcomes. This evidence can take various forms. Demonstrating your current proficiency at a comparable level can be done through a CV (your student support representative can assist with this), an employment letter, or an employment contract.

Additionally, documents from prior work or educational experiences, such as references from licensed tradespeople you’ve collaborated with, apprenticeship records, academic transcripts, or assessments from relevant past qualifications, all contribute to the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process. You can also submit proof of overseas qualifications or visual evidence of your work, especially for practical roles.

This qualification describes the skills and knowledge of a pastry cook who bakes cake, pastry and biscuit products working in a commercial baking environment.

All work must be carried out to comply with workplace procedures, in accordance with State/Territory food safety, and work health and safety, regulations and legislation that apply to the workplace.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

There are no entry requirements for this qualification.

Packaging Rules

To achieve this qualification, competency must be demonstrated in:

  • 15 units of competency:
  • 11 core units plus
  • 4 elective units.

Elective units must ensure the integrity of the qualification’s Australian Quality Framework (AQF) alignment and contribute to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome. The electives are to be chosen as follows:

  • 2 must be from those units listed in Group A and an additional 2 may be chosen from Group A
  • up to 1 from those units listed in Group B
  • up to 2 from those units listed in Group C.
